Had to do a quick post about this story!
http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2008/04/firefox-logo-sp.html
I’m a big firefox fan, although I have been mightily tempted by Flock if you haven’t noticed!
I’ll talk more about that later! firefox 3 is coming!
Subject: Supreme Commander
Recently I’ve been playing Supreme Commander. So as the rule goes -write about what you know.
What’s the story?
Supreme Commander won’t win prizes for story. Big prizes that is- I’m surprised it hasn’t won small one. There are three races: the United Earth Federation (or ‘UEF’ otherwise know as the Americans); the Cybran Nation (oppressed -robot- minority); and the Aeon Illuminate (religious fanaticists). All of these factions are more or less standard-ish, but in SC there all in space. Which in my books goes up at least 10 fold! I know, I’m a hopeless nerd!
So back to the story- you’ve three races and they’re all knocking several shades of snot out of each other.
Since there’s three races which funnily enough all descend from the same time era where the human race was at it’s hight of Culture, Peace and other things.
It there any fun?
So enough of story. Here comes the addiction. The maps are huge! You’re allowed to have a stupid amount of units! And maneuvering is simple and effective!
I think on the box THQ should have used the description of “It’s like chess, but way more addictive!”. I know it sounds quite sad to be using that image -since chess is definitely not the most popular game- still.
I would consider myself a strategy gamer -although not adverse to some COD4- but SC is delicious! A complete gorge for the strategist!
It’s not all praise. SC lacks unit formation. A simple function within strategy games. I don’t see why this is missing.
Final Word?
I’m going to finish it off!
And here’s some youtube videos in case your bored of reading.
Just to show I’m unbiased here’s my Twitter and my Pownce.
Pownce is so much better!
This seems to have been missed by many. Even when I was looking around to see what other people have written about this, they were all saying that pownce is better but lacking users! How is that possible?!
Pownce is the love-child of Kevin Rose, the founder of digg if you didn’t know. This makes me think- how can a product from a man whom has a legion of tech nerds loyal users?
There could be multiple reasons why, some which may be due to Pownce itself. Things like lacking IM and SMS support (which are fixable problems). The only real feature lacking is the “@” feature. In other words, an innovative reply system.
It’s interesting that the only flaw with pownce is that it lacks users. It’s superior to it “rival” twitter. And has
tons more usability then twitter- see sending links, files, and events- but lacks widespread popularity. And if your product is socially-based this isn’t great to state the obvious!
So what do the Pownce people need to do?
They NEED to get the Kevin-machine going. I don’t want to start pointing the finger or suggesting that Kevin likes Twitter more then Pownce. But he’s very quite about Pownce. I’m almost sure that if he mentions it over and over here and there user number would jump up.
Final Words?
Pownce rocks! But I do like Twitter. I’ve found that since I added more people in my following, Twitter has become a stream of information- most of it good! Hopefully Pownce can rise in popularity, for no other reason then to survive. There’s no reason why the two can’t co-exit. But still Pownce is better.
A little know fact about myself- I’m a gamer. Not to any extreme, but a time waster gamer never-the-less. At the moment my current heroin hero is Supreme Commander, but thats for another post…
The propose of this dabble of writing is to introduce, those who haven’t been introduce, to Zero Punctuation!
Zero Punctuation is a supplement to The Escapist magazine. ZP follows the adventures of Yahtzee as he slices and dices through some of the popular games of the day. Being a game developer himself, has an eye for things us mere mortals (and some QA staff) can’t see. I linked to some of what I found to be the funnier of his videos. (Because wordpress is being gay and won’t let me embed them)
Just remember, he talks faster Superman and Flash Gordon having sex.

Found Youtube Videos!!

This one is Devil May Cry 4. Still very good.

The people at Student Bloggers thought my blog was good enough to have as part of their featured blogs. Although I’m sure it was there to fill up the space! =) But I felt that it deserved a blog post on my behalf. Sharing the blogging love as they say!
All thanks to Kelly Sutton! And the power of Twitter!
Back after a week in Scotland. Glad to be home. Man it was cold out there. I know a lot of people love snow, but it’s still COLD! Here’s Bob…
Still a lovely place. Nice people and places. But in my observations i noticed the whole place loves their candy. Seriously, where ever there was a method of payment there was candy, sweets and chocolate. And here comes the BBC. I heard reports before about the Scots not having the greatest health. I think I see why (especially the worst teeth bit).
Another example, we were in this pub. Some family friendly place with good pub-grub. And there in the menu where the starters were was another selection. “Sweet”. Sweet? That’s right. Instead of your normal starter soup or whatever, you can have some toffee or sherbet. I try not to discriminate against any country(*cough* *cough* *not a country yet*) but still, come on!
Moving on to some tech stuff.
Geni is a private tech start-up. It’s about two years old now. The point of Geni which can’t be rightly guessed from the name is Genealogy. You start with your name and email. From there you can add your mother, father, brother, sisters, sons, and daughters.
First Impressions.
Start off the bat it’s flash-based. Thankfully it has been done tactfully. Having a web designers eye I’ve seen flash been done so badly! So the Geni developers have created a clean, relevantly-intuitive environment.
Any Use?
Sure! Absolutely! I have an extremely extended family. An additional feature of Geni is to invite other family members through email, so they can also add to the family tree.
Is this productive?
Hell no! Since when does family have to be productive… unless your the mafia.
Final Word?
Yes that is a question, cause you don’t know whether or not this is my last word
How about now?
Okay, okay. So to wrap up Geni is of use to those that want to stay in touch and have an interest in family history this is the job.
Update:
Turns out that the Geni team think my post my good enough to add to their del.icio.us. The thing is that I think I didn’t fully give a fully comprehensive review of Geni. I’ve no intention to since it’s been done far better. But I do want to draw more attention to the community aspect of Geni.
Like I said before, Geni allows you to add family members via email invites. Each person also has their profile which they can add information like most social networks. So Geni is a blueprint for the biggest social network. Obviously that’s not the main objective of Geni, but it can’t be a bad second! Actually come to think of it Geni’s slogan is “everyone’s related”… maybe they are planning to expand to be the biggest social network. Well all i know is they’ve my vote!
The wonderful wacky world of the grasshopper is as fantastic as the name sounds. Fantastic in a metrosexual (which I still think should mean sex with trains), scarf wearing, flamboyant way.
Reading this blog is like listening(well… technically reading) to a massive insider joke and bitch fest about people you don’t know, but you know someone like them. The catchy thing is, we’d all love to do. Grasshopper holds nothing back when going after her deliciously named friends.
And did I mention the writing?
Yes it’s new and has growing pains-like not knowing when to bitch and when to whine- very important difference! But it is the thought that counts. Blogs can be many things, and enjoyable should be one of them. (Like I can talk with all my parenthesis)
We’ve all wanted to, and have, complained/bitched about people to others, and this is no different. Well… except it’s probably one of the most public ways of doing it, bar a TV ad.
So if your the type to avoid negative energy and… stuff. That’s grand. In fact I’ve a song below this post you might enjoy. But if your the type that enjoys creative, funny writing. With a hint of bitchary. Give the Grasshopper a visit.
…please she’ll kill me otherwise…
Jonathan Coulton is a brilliant artist that releases his stuff under creative commons.
Just listen to those lyrics! Is it to much to ask from artists to write intelligent songs? I mean, come on! A “song” about a fucking umbrella is top of the charts for weeks. Whole Weeks!
And please tell me where it’s written that 4 out of 5 songs released have to be about love. I know the “teen market” is big, but please take a page out of Mr. Coulton’s book. There’s nothing wrong with showing a bit of intelligences. I looking at you Sean Ward!
I recently finish a Java project that was worth 20% of my overall Java grade. It turned out to be a project of self-discovery- as bad-slash-corny as it sounds.
So amount these new discoveries. One was my body does not function well after a night of non-sleep. In layman’s terms an all-nighter. *Surprise surprise* Also, after 10 liters of coke teeth still remain intact. Little sore but still intact.
With projects, and I’m not to sure how true this is in the real world, hindsight is great! No really it great. The day before a deadline if you haven’t had a panic attack, so might find yourself wondering, “Why couldn’t I do this a week ago?”. Of course there are various reason why (Lets go with blogging this time).
So, what have we learned from leaving times to the last minute and staying up till 4am and getting up at 10 the next day two nights running?
Fantastic question that has been answered about… oh say… 500 million times. A quick Google search on GTD(Getting things done) returns, wait for it… 6,390,000 results. So 6 million times. Returning to the initial statement, you know? The bit about self-discovery? I put things off.
What does this mean for anyone reading this?
It means this blog will rapidly fall into the murky, dense pits, of the modern “fab” (fucking hate fabs) fo the self health blogs, where you follow people that you don’t really care about. As they go on their uninteresting journey to lose weight/other-self-health crap. So I”ll try to be interesting.
Or will I?
No. This blog will have entries for another year. I don’t care wither people read this or not. I out things off, I leave everything to the last minute.
The most important thing I discovered was that I have to challenge myself. The challenge, if you were a bastard and skip the middle bit of this entry, is to keep this blog opened and active for 1 year… and lose weight/other-self-health crap. Oh Jebus!
